More young people are expected to get an education

In almost all Danish municipalities expected more young people from the 2009 vintage to obtain an education than young people from year 2008. The new figures from profile model at the municipal level. The Minister of Education is pleased with the progress.

The government has a target of 95 percent of the young people have at least a secondary education, and 50 percent have completed tertiary education. A projection from the so-called profile model at the municipal level shows a positive development in this direction. In each municipality expected the young people from the 2009 vintage to better achieve education compared with youth from vintage 2008. At secondary level, an increase in 97 out of 98 municipalities. At the higher area there is an increase in 83 municipalities. Nationally expected 49.4 per cent of school leavers to obtain a higher education. Education Minister Troels Lund Poulsen is pleased with the positive development. "The results show that government policy is working. We are very close to achieving our goal that 50 percent of the young people receive higher education, and we are approaching the 95-percent target. The government has launched a number of initiatives such as mentoring and better school environments to attract and retain young people in education. Nevertheless, we are not entirely objective. Among others are Copenhagen, Aarhus and Odense below the national average when it comes to the proportion of young people who are expected to get a secondary education. It is not good enough and there is need that the three largest cities make an extra effort to help the youth of an education, "says Troels Lund Poulsen. Municipalities north of Copenhagen ranks best in the statistics, while the capital is among the ten municipalities with the least likely to have a youth or at least a secondary education. Municipalities Lyngby-Taarbæk, Hørsholm, Allerød, Rudersdal and Gentofte are all above the national average and in the top ten, compared to how many are expected to get a secondary education, at least in secondary and higher education. In Lyngby-Taarbæk expected 94 percent of the year, who finished 9th grade in 2009, to achieve at least a secondary education. It is six percentage points more than the national average.

The profile model at the municipal level is calculated on the basis of behavior of the students, who resided in the municipality at the end of 9th grade, regardless of whether they have since moved.
